As the cakes are sliced and the kettle whistles a familiar tune, the audience is transported to times long past. Memories found in a dusty tin are amplified to reveal stories about community spirit, love, loss, hope, remembering and the thread that ties them all together.

Inspired by the memories of local people over the age of 70 and their responses to the ‘Button Museum’, Ragroof Theatre presents a site-specific performance for all ages.

‘Make Do and Mend’ will appeal to anyone who has thought back to a time in their lives and wanted, even just for second, to try and relive those moments.

This is a small-scale production that can be toured to village halls or performed as an outdoor theatre piece. It can be adapted to include local stories gathered from local people about their wartime experiences – as we are able to facilitate reminiscence sessions in care homes and day-care centres through one-to-one interviews.

'Beautifully evoked... Three female performers, gorgeous in pillar box red 40s dresses, seem to totally embody the period as they create exquisite, clear images through elegant gestural choreography. It is difficult to think how else this genuinely poignant piece could be improved.’
