“Let Ragroof Theatre take your school hall back in time to the days of the dance hall era”

Ragroof Theatre would like to introduce your Key Stage Two pupils to our 1940s Jive dance workshops and encourage them to learn about the music, movements, history and cultural origin of the Jive era.

Our dance workshops are linked to the curriculum studies in the subject entitled ‘The History of Britain since the 1930s’. Ragroof introduces the pupils to this subject and encourages them to identify characteristic features of this period. In the Jive workshop pupils work together as a group, in pairs and on their own. They are encouraged to develop compositional ideas as individuals and the importance of performing action with consistent control when working in pairs. As the workshop progresses pupils are asked to change partners to adopt tactics and work in a new partnership to improve their newly learnt Jive skills.

“Ragroof Theatre gave us a fantastic morning of dance and the children responded really well to learning some basic steps and building techniques both individually and with a partner. The music selected and enthusiastic approach provided a positive learning experience for every child.”
Shirley Streets | Year 2 group leader & Performing Arts co-ordinator | Fairlawn Primary | Lewisham, London

The actors running our workshops hold CRB checks and are experienced in working with children and young people.

The two workshop leaders come dressed in vintage clothing, bring props and decorations to transport your school hall back to the dance hall era. We can provide the necessary technical equipment and are happy to fit our lessons into your timetable.

Workshops are adaptable to other key stages and are open to all ages.
